woodwork – CAD design
This project was a combination of traditional woodworking skills and computer aided design to create a desk lamp, inspired by the Kumiko style of japanese carpentry. Pupils learnt how to create simple lap joints using a chisel and some very accurate measuring and cutting. They created a frame using 12 pieces of 10mm hardwood squares. They then used TinkerCAD to create designs for the panels which were either 3D printed or lasercut. Vellum paper was used to diffuse the lights and a pre-programmed RGB LED from Kitronik provided the light source.
